NODIRA KHOLMATOVA PH.D

Nodira is a political sociologist and researcher with expertise in NVivo and mixed-methods analysis, passionate about helping researchers work rigorously with complex qualitative data.

Having conducted multi-sited fieldwork across Central Asia (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan), Eastern Europe and Northern Eurasia, the Western Balkans, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, Nodira has built deep practical experience applying NVivo to heterogeneous datasets spanning interviews, policy documents, and ethnographic material. She holds a Ph.D. in Social and Political Sciences from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Throughout fieldwork in diverse political and cultural contexts, Nodira's constant has been her commitment to methodological rigour and to equipping other researchers with the analytical tools to navigate complex data ethically and confidently. Her current research applies decolonial perspectives to develop creative and ethical approaches to data collection and analysis in war and conflict contexts. She teaches NVivo and mixed-methods approaches with a particular focus on multilingual datasets, qualitative coding frameworks, and reflexive analysis in social science and migration research.

Nodira teaches in English, Russian, and Tajik.

Nodira has published across migration studies, political sociology, and postcolonial theory, including in Political Geography and the Oxford Handbook of Intersectional Approaches to Migration, Gender, and Sexuality, with a monograph forthcoming with Amsterdam University Press in 2026.
